AEGN’s vision is to improve the conservation and functioning of Australia’s environment.
AEGN’s principles and values are that the AEGN is:
- Inspiring and exciting
- Sustainable
- Ambitious
- Ethical
- A leader in its field.
The major aims of the AEGN are to:
- Support environmental grantmakers;
- Grow environmental philanthropy; and
- Sustain the AEGN.
The AEGN uses the following three strategies to pursue its aims:
Collaborating
A key aspect of the AEGN is forging alliances with other funders and organisations. Following on from our regular briefing sessions, we aim to build networks of funders who will work together to address key environment issues facing Australia. The AEGN will also collaborate with institutions and experts to get the best minds of the day to help us become more effective grantmakers.
Convening
The foundation to much of the AEGN’s work is our gatherings. We hold numerous meetings to provide members with trusted information about a broad range of environmental issues. This includes an annual symposium and regular seminars, workshops and briefings with experts in their field from around Australia and the world. Example topics for briefings include climate change, energy and water. Key to this work are field trips which include day and week long travel to explore issues of interest on a “first hand experience” basis.
Communicating
The AEGN shares vital, timely and useful information with its members through its website (Members’ Only section); the publication of a bi-monthly newsletter; briefing notes from AEGN events and other reference material. We also aim to research where environmental grants are going and to track this over the years and to share best practice approaches.
