While we are in the middle of major climate change and environmental tipping points and at a pivotal time in history, we must stay strong, build our resilience and care for ourselves and each other. So, on behalf of the AEGN Board and staff, I’d like to wish you a very safe and peaceful summer season and I look forward to working with you in 2020 to continue to support the smart, strategic, hard-working and critical community sector that is our voice for climate change and the environment.
The last AEGN Board meeting for the year was held recently in Sydney. We met with heavy hearts but an increased resolve as the stark reality of the New South Wales fires and the immediate impact of climate change was heavy in the air. Our hearts and thoughts go out to all the landowners, fire fighters, towns and communities, animal carers, nature lovers, national park campaigners and others who have been so impacted by these devastating fires and the ongoing drought.
Sydney members were in fine form as they shared a plant-based dinner with the Board and staff. Many at the dinner were keen on seeing sustainability options for their attendance at the AEGN conference in March 2020. We are exploring carbon offsets, green hotels and other options so stay tuned!
I was asked to share my reflections on my long-service-leave and returning to work. If you’d like to hear these reflections, I’d be very happy to come and share them with you and or your Board.
