Bruce McGregor has been an environmental activist since his teens. His training and experience include biological science and natural resource management. He has volunteered for decades in waterway and catchment management, environmental protection and restoration.

Bruce is a Councillor of the Victorian National Parks Association (President 2018-2022). Since 2017 he has been President of the National Parks Australia Council. Bruce co-founded the Nature Stewards program to improve ecological literacy and encourage environmental volunteering.

Bruce and his wife Ann are founding members of AEGN. Their philanthropy supports nature conservation, environmental advocacy and building movement capacity, as well as climate action and Indigenous caring for Country. They are Victorian Trust for Nature covenantors and enabled the Tasmanian Land Conservancy to establish the Prosser River Reserve.
