Jim Philipson
Founder and Chair at Rendere Environmental Trust and the Nature Impact Collective

Jim Phillipson champions people and organisations driving transformational change for nature. Raised on a farm on Gunaikurnai Country in Gippsland, he brings a deep respect for community and Country to everything he does.

Whilst building several successful businesses, Jim and his wife Heather formed EcoGipps and established four connecting properties across the Avon Wilderness. This conservation land is now being donated to BioDiversity Legacy, an organisation working to transition land into a commons structure - featured in Philanthropy Australia’s latest Inspiring Stories of Giving.

In 2018, they founded Rendere Environmental Trust, a place-based, collaborative philanthropic funder committed to deploying the Phillipson's full capital base by 2030 to maximise its impact. Jim also chairs Nature Impact Collective, a growing alliance of funders backing ambitious, trust-based work for nature across Australia.

He has played a catalytic role in the formation of several not-for-profit organisations such as the narrative-shifting  Biodiversity Council.

For Jim, philanthropy is deeply intergenerational. It’s about relationships, leadership, and supporting an enduring network caring for Country.
