Acting on climate change requires a huge restructuring of our economy. This transition can either spell disaster or opportunity for people and communities across Australia. Join leading practitioners to hear more about what supporting a ‘just transition’ really means, how philanthropy can help support great transition work, and how Australia can be a fairer, more resilient community by acting on climate change in a way that puts the needs of people first.

Speakers include:

  • Mark Wakeham – Senior Policy Advisor, Climate, Energy and Just Transitions with the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU).
Mark has worked in leadership positions for Australian environment NGOs over almost two decades, most recently as CEO of Environment Victoria. He has worked in the solar industry in remote communities and been working on renewable energy and climate policy since 2000
  • Dr Amanda Cahill – CEO of The Next Economy
  • Warrick Jordan – Coordinator of the Hunter Jobs Alliance
Warrick has a long history in the environment movement. He is a former national forest campaigner at the Wilderness Society, and has been involved at operational and board level with organisations such as Environment Tasmania, Lock the Gate, and a number of grassroots campaign organisations in NSW and Tasmania. Since 2018, Warrick has been working on local transition issues, including with the University of Newcastle and AGL Macquarie. From 2019-2021 he was employed by the Australian Government as the Hunter Region Employment Facilitator, providing direct assistance to retrenched workers in the resources sector and collaborating on policy initiatives such as the Hunter 2050 Foundation, the Singleton Worker Pathways Service, and the Upper Hunter Economic Development Corporation.

The climate change funder group meets monthly, usually on the second Tuesday of each month. Connect with funders across Australia who share your passion for action on climate change. Funder groups provide an opportunity to develop lasting relationships, share your success stories, grow the impact of your funding and find collaboration opportunities.
